Mayor Scott & the Greater Baltimore Committee Commit to Collaborating with BUILD to End the Crisis of Vacant and Abandoned Homes in Baltimore on 7.16.2023

More than 500 BUILD leaders attended an action with Mayor Brandon Scott and the Greater Baltimore Committee at Memorial Baptist Church on July 16, 2023, to push for an end to the vacancy and abandoned homes crisis in Baltimore once and for all.

BUILD, Mayor Scott, and the Greater Baltimore Committee agreed to:

  • Work with partners and outside experts to develop a rigorous implementation plan that highlights the city, state, federal, and private sector actions needed to create transformative and equitable economic development in neighborhoods with high rates of vacancy, including securing the (at least) $7.5 billion in comprehensive investment all parties know will be necessary.
  • Develop a menu of solutions, cognizant of the diverse pathways by which houses enter, remain in, and rise from vacancy.
  • Work with city, state, and federal agencies, the private sector, and anchor institutions to utilize new and existing city, state, federal, and private sector funds to advance and scale progress to end this crisis once and for all.
