BUILD BALTIMORE

BUILD – Baltimoreans United in Leadership Development – is a broad-based community power organization, rooted in Baltimore’s neighborhoods and churches. We are non-partisan, interfaith, multiracial, and dedicated to making our city a better place for all Baltimoreans to live and thrive. You’ll find us working for change on front stoops and in living rooms, in churches and classrooms, in City Hall and at the State House in Annapolis.

For more than 30 years, BUILD has worked to improve housing, increase job opportunities, and rebuild schools, among other issues. We are a non-profit supported by the dues of our member organizations and by individuals, businesses, and foundations. We are affiliated with the Industrial Areas Foundation, a coalition of like-minded organizations in cities across the United States.

Our victories range from initiating the national living wage movement to creating Child First, an after-school program that encourages parent-teacher-neighborhood partnerships, to building and rebuilding more than 1,000 houses in Baltimore’s most distressed areas. MORE...

NEWS AND UPDATES

Save Our Youth / Save Our City:
Times are tough in the city, but we can’t afford to quit investing in our young people or the places they live and play and learn. Too many recreation centers are closed; too many are locked during the times they most need to be open to provide an alternative to the streets. After-school program funding is at risk. Join us as we push for fully funded, fully staffed recreation centers and more money for after-school programs. Baltimore’s children are its future. MORE...

BUILD in the Neighborhoods / Darley Park:
When BUILD’s organizing work began in Darley Park, the trash and neglected buildings were what stood out most. The community has come a long way, forging a relationship with neighboring South Clifton Park, working to get rid of unsafe buildings, pushing for safe and responsive community policing, and continuing to form new alliances to address blight. Central to the rejuvenation are the community garden in Darley Park and $1.2 million in capital funds from the state to build a new recreation center in Clifton Park. MORE...
