Provide an additional 2,000 young people with after-school opportunities and make after-school programs part of the city’s annual budget. National studies show such programs increase young people’s success in school and prevent youth violence. For the last several years, the city has relied on surplus funding for after-school programs. But surplus funding is not enough; after-school programs should be a continuing priority in the city budget.
